Gibraltar Outdoor Classroom

A partnership between Peninsula State Park, the Friends of Peninsula State Park, the Friends of Gibraltar and the Door County Invasives Species team, are working together to create an outdoor classroom just behind the Gibraltar School.

Vinni Chomeau, Friends of Gibraltar; Kathleen Harris, Peninsula State Park; and Bob Bultman, Friends of Peninsula State Park and Door County Invasives Species Team leader, comprise the committee working on the project.

A possible classroom site is visited by members of both Friends groups , Park Personnel and Gibraltar faculty.  Gibraltar students worked with a DNR forester to evaluate possible sites as part of an environmental learning project.

High school Students team up with Friends member Michelle Kemp to create this pile of honeysuckle brush removed from the trail leading back to the classroom site.

The work crew on November 8, 2008 gathered for a lunch break. Invasive Eurasian Honeysuckle is prevalent in this area and continuing work days are being scheduled to remove the honeysuckle and help restore this area to a more natural state.
